Learn to Fly

Domestic Students
Students at HCAT choose to learn to fly for either recreational purposes or to pursue a career as a Commercial Helicopter Pilot.
If you simply wish to obtain a licence that enables you to fly friends and family to beautiful destinations around NZ then a Private Pilots licence also known as a PPL is for you. This licence is your ticket to the sky. Training with HCAT will ensure you are trained to the highest possible aviation standards with a strong focus on safety.
If your dream is to pursue a career as a Commercial Pilot you will train towards a Commercial Pilot's Licence. A CPL is a professional licence which allows the holder to be employed (paid) as a Commercial Pilot. New Zealand trained Helicopter pilots are employed in a range of activities such as Tourism, Forestry, Agriculture, Oil, Gas and Mineral exploration, Rescue Operations and as Helicopter Instructors at Flight Schools.
The New Zealand CPL is a highly regarded licence worldwide that meets the International Civil Aviation Organisation standards.
After successfully completing a CPL, students can take the path towards becoming a Flight Instructor and teach others the thrill that is learning to fly. Flight instructing is an excellent way to broaden your knowledge, refine your flight handling skills and increase your total hours.
International Students
HCAT is in the process of an NZQA application submission and will endeavour to offer International Students places on our courses in the very near future.

HCAT is CAA Part 141 Certified
