A PPL licences allows you the freedom to fly friends and family to beautiful and remote destinations all over New Zealand.

Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years old to fly solo
  • Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
  • 17 years old at the time of your flight test
  • Hold a current NZ Class 2 Aviation Medical

There are some medical and physical conditions that prevent a small number of the population from obtaining an Aviation Medical. Theory and Flying

Ground Theory aspects

Students can choose either to attend a ground course or to self study these course subjects.
PPL examinations test student knowledge of the following 6 aviation subjects:

  • Meteorology
  • Navigation and Flight Planning
  • Air Law
  • Flight Radio
  • Human Factors
  • Helicopter Technical Knowledge

Practical Aspect

Minimum of 50 hours flight experience in the following:

  • 20 hours dual instruction including 5 hours advanced instruction
  • 15 hours Pilot in Command (solo flight time)
  • 5 hours Dual navigation
  • 5 hours Pilot in command (solo) Navigation
  • 5 hours mountainous terrain training and 5 hours Mountain Theory
